Mosher Wendall Earl [Male] b. 3 SEP 1906 North Jay, Maine - d. 6 OCT 2002 Norristown, Montgomery Co., PA

Wendall lived with his youngest daughter Susan from about 1987. When the family was around, he would sometimes tell stories about life on the farm when he was growing up. There were cows on the farm. They used a machine to milk them and sent the milk out by train about once a week. When asked about other animals, he mentioned two work horses and then was silent for awhile. After about five minutes he said "Oh, and about 200 hundred hens." They sold the eggs. They also grew maple trees for the syrup and apple trees. The boys slept upstairs in the cold attic. They slept two to a bed and used stones heated on the woodstove to warm the bed. He said that his brothers didn't grow up to be farmers. One worked for the railroad, and two worked in a garage. I'm not sure about the other one. He talked about a Frenchmen that helped out on the farm for a little while. He would catch rabbits and eat them and offer them to Wendall. He didn't like it. Wendall's father had a dog that would chase 'coons. One night he treed one and wouldn't leave it until Wendall's father came out and shot the 'coon.

Horace Newell Leighton comes to the Mississippi valley from New EnglanHorace Newell Leighton comes to the Mississippi valley from New England. His birth having occurred in Machias, Washington, Maine, on the 8th of January, 1853. He spent his youthful days there and acquired his education in the public schools, and when his textbooks were put aside he worked in the shop, the mill and the office, where his varied experiences prepared him for the activates and duties of his later life. In the university of hard knocks he learned many valuable lessons concerning the estimate and value of his own powers and of those things which make up life's contacts , experiences and opportunities. He was twenty-three years of age when in 1876 he came to Minneapolis, where through the intervening period he has made his home. His progress in the business world has been continuous. He took up contracting and building and throughout the intervening period has directed his efforts along those lines. Steadily he has forged to the front and has long since occupied a commanding position in his chosen field of labor. It was in association with his three brothers---Eben E., Fred A. and J. LeRoy Leighton---that he organized the firm of H. N. Leighton & Company, under which style their operations were carried on until 1892, when the business was incorporated under the present name of the H. N. Leighton Company. Eben E. Leighton passed away on the 10th of March 1921 at Los Angeles, California, where he had gone with his family for the winter. Horace N. Leighton has always been the President of the corporation, while Fred A. Leighton is vice president and J LeRoy Leighton the secretary and manager.

N. Leighton Company. His high standing is evidenced in the fact that he has been chosen to the presidency of the northwest branch of the Associated General Contractors of America. Such has been his success that he now ranks among the capitalists here and as he has prospered in his undertakings he has embraced the opportunity to aid in the city's growth and development by the support he has given to all those civic interests and enterprises which feature in the welfare of the community. Early in his career he came to a realization of the fact that industry wins and industry has been the beacon light of his life. Its potency is shown in his prosperity and his example should well serve as a source of encouragement and inspiration to others.
