WRENTHAM -- Earle T. Stewart, 91, of South Street, died on Friday at his dWRENTHAM -- Earle T. Stewart, 91, of South Street, died on Friday at his daughter Jo-Anne Topham's Lake Pearl Home and under the care of hospice.

He was the widower of Marguerite (Munson) Stewart.He was the widower of Marguerite (Munson) Stewart.

Born in Wrentham on Oct. 6, 1914, he was a son of the late Walter H. and MBorn in Wrentham on Oct. 6, 1914, he was a son of the late Walter H. and Mary A. (Follett) Stewart.

He was a graduate of the former Wrentham High School and the Burdette BusiHe was a graduate of the former Wrentham High School and the Burdette Business College in Boston. He was employed as a purchasing agent at the former Crosby Valve and Gage Co. in Wrentham, where he had worked for 31 years, retiring in 1980. He had previously worked for a dozen years at the former Winter Bros. in Wrentham and for two years at the former Draper Corp. in Hopedale, where he was book keeper and a foreign sales representative.

Earle joined the membership of the Original Congregational Church in 19Earle joined the membership of the Original Congregational Church in 1945 and immersed himself in the governing of the church. He served as a deacon for over 20 years, was a former member of the Board of Trustees, was church collector for seven years, was on the by-laws committee and served on the board of World Service.

He actively served on the 300th anniversary committee preparing for the yeHe actively served on the 300th anniversary committee preparing for the year long celebrations in 1992.

Originally written by Minnie Bennett back in the 1950s, he worked along with the Richard Ross and the late Bruce Crowther, in bringing the book up to date (1992) and included for the first time an index.

He also served the Wrentham community. He was a member of the Wrentham HisHe also served the Wrentham community. He was a member of the Wrentham Historical Commission from 1977-2004, served on the Town Finance Committee at various times from 1941-1972, Wrentham School Committee 1943-1953, Regional School District Planning 1950-1951, School Planning Committee 1952-1962, Elementary School Building Committee 1955-1957, was Selectman 1954-1963, Interim to the Planning Board 1954, Member of the Board of Public Welfare 1956-1959, the Sheldonville Fire Station Planning Committee 1971-1972, and a member of the Republican Town Committee 1940-1976. He was also a founding member of the Wrentham Historical Society and the Diamond Hill Cemetery Association from 1964-2004.

One of his proudest accomplishments was the co-authoring with C. Gordon WoOne of his proudest accomplishments was the co-authoring with C. Gordon Woodhams, an Images of America pictorial history of the Town of Wrentham. The book was a huge success and has been reprinted.

He was a life member of the Massachusetts Selectmen's Association, and wHe was a life member of the Massachusetts Selectmen's Association, and was a member of the Wrentham Senior Citizens.

Earle was known by all and loved by many. A man who loved tradition and faEarle was known by all and loved by many. A man who loved tradition and family history, he frequently attended the Highland Games at Loon Mountain, and was a proud descendant of Wrentham's first pastor the Rev. Samuel Man and it's first miller John Whiting, for whom the former Whiting's Pond, now Lake Pearl was named.

In addition to his daughter Jo-Anne Topham, he leaves one son Earle T. SteIn addition to his daughter Jo-Anne Topham, he leaves one son Earle T. Stewart Jr., and was father of the late Richard E. Stewart, and four grandchildren.
