"When George first entered the US in December 1924 he was still marri"When George first entered the US in December 1924 he was still married to Sydney which name was on the record I found. From a letter he wrote to my grandmother, he "got his divorce" about 1926. It was a messy affair due to Sydney's mental health issues and the grounds were that she had deserted the marital bed. George won custody of their child which further contributed to her declining mental health. She died in Florida about 1936 and was buried with her family who had settled in Manitoba".

I see it was probated in 1927 and assume death must have occurred in the previous few months. It was not complicated and so it should not have taken long. Presumably Phoebe was still living in 1927.

Mary Ann North is William's elder sister born c. 1841 at King's Mill; she gives this birthplace again on the 1901 census. She witnessed brother George's marriage in 1857. Her 1870 marriage to William North was indexed as KINNEY which is a misreading. I have submitted a postem.

In 1901, Alice and her newly married (1900) husband Charles Bradley were "visitors" in her parents home. The Ancestry site misreads her husband as Spanley but BMD site gives Bradley and with that knowledge it can be so read on the 1901 census. Also at home were William George 1875, a furrier; Mabel 1880, a Grocery Shop Assistant and Archibald Barber, 1882, a share broker's clerk.
