Susannah (also called Hannah) was born in 1853 in Ashby. She was 17 yeaSusannah (also called Hannah) was born in 1853 in Ashby. She was 17 years old and living at home with her parents in 1871. She described herself as "assistant at home" while her mother, Martha, worked in a huxter's shop (retail shop?). At the age of 20, Hannah married James Preece (aged 25, the son of Joseph Preece, a gamekeeper) on Nov. 10, 1873 in Holy Trinity Church in the Ettingshall section of Bilston. Their marriage was witnessed by Richard and Selina Kinsey, Hannah's brother and sister. The couple had only one child, Richard Kinsey Preece. Hannah lived until Dec. 1908, when she died at the age of 55; she was buried on Dec. 8, 1908 in Bilston Cemetery (Grave 216A), beside her husband, James Preece, who had died at the age of 39 and was buried on Aug. 16, 1887. Their son Richard lived on Ward Street, Bilston, at the time of his death at the age of 48 in Apr. 1928. He was buried in the same cemetery as his parents on Apr. 24, 1928 (Grave 2395EB).

In 1871, Richard was working as a coachman (at the age of 13) and still living with his parents in Bilston, contributing to the family income. The 1881 Census lists Richard, age 23, was working as a carter (possibly for his father), already married, and living at 44 George Street in Bilston, next door to his brother George. Richard emigrated to America in the late 1880s. For some reason, his parents, who were both around 60 years old at the time, kept Richard's only son, James, with them when he and his wife sailed for America. James never saw his parents again.

October 30, 1892.
On Jan. 22, 1910, Selina, aged 20, married Edward Thomas Pitt, aged 21, wOn Jan. 22, 1910, Selina, aged 20, married Edward Thomas Pitt, aged 21, who worked as a fitter in the iron foundry. The wedding was witnessed by Richard James Kinsey, Selina's younger brother, and her married sister, Martha Gateley. Selina's husband Edward died at the age of 69 and was buried July 11, 1957 in Bilston Cemetery (Grave 1069A). Selina would die at the age of 70 and be buried in the same plot on June 2, 1960.

Selina Kinsey married Thomas Murray, born 1867, who began his working liSelina Kinsey married Thomas Murray, born 1867, who began his working life in a steel rolling mill but had a serious accident when he was 14 when he lost his left forearm. In spite of this he continued to work in the steel works for many years before becoming the publican of the Greyhound Inn (Bilston). Selina's sisters Ellen and Martha were also in the licensed trade, Ellen moving to Devon with her husband Harley, who broke his neck in a hunting accident. Ellen kept the Valley of the Rock Hotel in Lynton, Devon. Martha's first husband, George Briggs, was drowned in a vat of beer when working in a brewery (strange but true!). Martha, who remarried (second husband's surname Millington) kept various public houses during her career, including the Bull's Head at Bilston, the Hen and Chickens at Bilston, the Waterglade at Willenhall, and the White Horse at Sedgely Bullring. Martha was famous for putting on a big spread for her regulars and their wives every Christmas.
Selina and Thomas eventually left the Greyhound and opened a fish and chSelina and Thomas eventually left the Greyhound and opened a fish and chip shop at 49 High Street Bilston. They died on exactly the same day in 1931. Selina had been suffering from cirrhosis of the liver (seemingly from drinking too much of the stock when in the pub trade!) and Thomas, who was not known to be in poor health, seems to have simply given up on the spot (my father tells me that Thomas adored Selina, so this was perhaps the nearest thing to a broken heart we are likely to come across).

In 1891, Selina (age 18) was working as a dressmaker and living with her parents. She married Thomas Murray on Dec. 26, 1892 and had at least one daughter, Hazel, who was baptized in St. Leonard's (Anglican) Church, Bilston, on May 28, 1916. The Murrays were living at 49 High Street, Bilston at the time. Selina died in 1931, at the age of 58, and was buried in Bilston Cemetery on July 17, 1931. Her husband Thomas, aged 64, was buried with her the same day (Grave 2163GB).
