May 26th, 1757, No. (312 ;) came to this place soon after, built on West Main street, two miles from the village, the same house his grand-son, Ezekiel, now, (1867,) lives in; built also a saw-mill on the Quinnipiac. He was a man of mild temper, kind disposition, of good Christian deportment; he died April 19th, 1796, aged 65.

Among her many friends, both young and old, were two little girls that lived next door to her, Mylie and Jaysie. She would remind them she wasn't their "Grandma," but just "Ferne."
Ferne was very proud of being a veterans' widow, and volunteered many thouFerne was very proud of being a veterans' widow, and volunteered many thousands of hours at the Roseburg VA Hospital, earning many awards for her service to helping veterans. She also served as a Board Member and Membership Secretary of the Roseburg Historical Society Lane House right up to a couple of years before her death. She was also a longtime active member of the Roseburg Chapter Women of the Moose.
Ferne enjoyed many hobbies and crafts in her spare time, and her kittieFerne enjoyed many hobbies and crafts in her spare time, and her kitties, but mostly she loved her family and friends, and they loved visiting with her at her home. She was very adept at computers and the latest gadgets, and was lovingly referred to as the "Gadget Queen of Clover Lane." The walls of her home were covered with pictures of hundreds of family and friends.
Services will begin with Visitation Monday, March 19, 2012 at Wilson's ChaServices will begin with Visitation Monday, March 19, 2012 at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., with the Funeral Service following at 11 a.m. at Redeemers Fellowship Church on West Harvard Blvd. Interment will be at Roseburg Memorial Gardens.

Genesee - Lewis Michael Messersmith, 89, a retired wood and metal craftsGenesee - Lewis Michael Messersmith, 89, a retired wood and metal craftsman and former instructor at the University of Idaho, died Wednesday at 5 p.m. at a Coeur d'Alene nursing home. He moved to Coeur d'Alend about a month ago and had been in failing health recently. Messersmith moved to Genesee in 1959 after retiring from the UI, where for 13 years he was a shop technician and instructor in welding, blacksmithing and other metalworking. He continued his hobby in woodworking and delivered custom made articles to many area residents. He was born Feb. 15, 1890, in York, Penn., where he graduated from high school. He later attended Adcox Auto School in Portland, Ore. He was married to Hazel Bramlett at Lapwai, Nov. 2, 1913. She died Nov. 11, 1976.

During World War II he taught at the Army Ordinance Training School at Tacoma, Wash. He came to the university in 1946 and retired in 1959. Survivors include three sons, Dick of Sunnyvale, Calif., John of Ventura, Calif., and Harold of Coeur d'Alene; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lela Springer of Genesee is his sister-in-law. The family suggests memorials to the Cancer Fund.
